Let’s Welcome the Tie Tack Back With a Bang

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketShunned for its conservative connotations, the tie tack is back. Young men are sporting that little gold ring or pin on their ties and are making a strong fashion statement – we are hip, cool, and funky but no punk collagists.

Extreme fashion?

Not really. If your young man is sporting a new look, be glad. He is finally using a tie and a tie tack! After snubbing the tie and its perennial partner, guys are showing off a different kind of cool – real cool.

This hip fashion evokes images of young men in crew cut, slack and spiffy ties, and driving their Dad’s Oldsmobile. Grandmas will love this “reincarnation” of the 50s when life was less hectic and uncomplicated, but with a big difference.

Moms, wives, and girlfriends should be glad their guys are going for the tie instead of the hosiery that’s making France’s leading hosiery makers busy. So they shouldn’t be hollering and pulling their hair if their guy is bringing home lots of dirty finds from the trash bins for his punk collage.

Your ties, your taste

But fashion is a fickle thing. For women, the X Frocks for spring 2008 is making titanic splashes on the fashion pages. In contrast, the return of the tie tack did not make a noisy comeback. It’s not the tie tack really, but the guy who wears this and how he wears his ties. The fashion flock is gearing towards the bohemian look with urban polish. (more…)

7 Fashion Classics For Autumn 2007

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketThe good news is that black is huge for autumn and winter 2007. Black on black is the big look now and probably would be in the following decades. Has black ever been out?

Here are my suggestions.

Get the backbone of your wardrobe which you can mix and match throughout the season.

1. A turtleneck top which you can wear with just about anything — from jeans to a glamorous evening skirt. That is a timeless classic which you can wear in the years to come with the latest trends of each new year. If you look good in black, go for black. If not, since this is worn close to your face, pick a color that you actually look good in.

2. Get yourself a slightly flared skirt that ends just above the knee. That’s this season’s favoured length for dresses and skirts which happens to be flattering on most women. If you have a colored top, then go for a black skirt. If your top is black, be adventurous and try a plaid skirt to liven things up a bit.

3. Opaque stockings. The go with skirt suits, dresses and your skirts and are seen everywhere on the fall / winter runways. (more…)

Hot Cool Lingerie For 2008

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Lingerie style changes just as fashion changes. So, each year there are some major trends in what to wear under the clothes. 2008 trends include several models. The baby doll is still in style for 2008 and the corsets are very hot. The key word for 2008′s lingerie is romance and imagination. Nothing is out of fashion this year as long as it is in the right combination. Remember that what you wear underneath the clothes is also important, maybe even more important that the clothes per se. the sculptured underwear is also a powerful come back in 2008.

These items are actually sculpted after the female anatomy, so don’t miss a lingerie sculpture, because it is a real piece of art in 2008. Panty hoses are in, and these may be of the daftest colors. The more colorful the panty hoses the better. For panties: G strings are not really stylish anymore, so other styles are appreciated: think bikinis, or why not even boy shorts- which may be really sexy if the cut is more daring.

The romantic lingerie will be highly fashionable and some sexy lingerie will be in too. Consequently, flowers will be dominant and laces will rule. The trendiest colors will be several and these are to support the romance and imagination that is meant to represent the lingerie fashion for the year 2008. The black will be always in fashion, nothing could be more romantic and sexy at the same time than some silk lingerie in black. Just the same, white keeps a hot spot, as white lingerie will never go out of style. Red is for the daring romantics, while pink is for a cozy day. Other colors can occur: purple, yellow, and even green. Who said that these cannot be used as lingerie colors? The code for colors in 2008 will be no limits. So, besides the romantic and sexy colors, other unusual colors will also be advertised. (more…)

Shoe Styles For Autumn Winter 2007-2008

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The metallic trend seen in make up and accessories this season extends to shoes. Though there are two main colour schemes: dark naturals and sporty whites and silvers.

The dark natural colours are black which is back but hasn’t taken over, brown is still a big colour this season. Off black colours are on trend too, such as dark purple, midnight blue and charcoal grey.

There is a trend for two tone shoes so while the boot or shoe is darkly coloured it is accented with light or bright colours. Boot tops will be eye catching, contrast stitching will feature as will stretch insets, elaborate zips and metallic buckles. Chilli red, a big colour in clothing this season, will be seen in piping for that contrast look, as will purple, ultramarine and green.

Round toes are back this season, although the retro look still features the square. To contrast with the eye catching embellishments the cut and shape of shoes this season is simple and elegant.

Sporty whites are seen in high tech stretch boots for increased wearability. An almost futuristic look this combines high leg boots with rubber soles and that round toe and prominent embellishments such as zips or buckles.

The metallic look is seen as bronze replaces gold and silver contrasts (more…)

Jewelry Fashion 2008

The trend for jewelry this autumn and winter are simple, attractive necklaces with large vibrant pendants. Necklaces may have many different layered strands of decorated silver and gold chains, or freshwater cultured pearls in unusual shapes and sizes. Exquisite multi-colored semi-precious gemstones adorn glitzy bangles and metal cuff bracelets. Silver hoop earrings of different sizes, faceted briolette gemstones as well as layered dangling earrings are quite fashionable.

Colorful pendants adorn necklaces beaded with tiny glass beads and semi-precious gemstones. Massive lightweight beads sport eye catching necklaces. Black onyx strung along with silver is trendy this year as is small mirrored glass and bulky colorful acrylic beads. Gold and silver chains embellish charms, stones, and even wire wrapped pearls. Strands of cultured freshwater pearls are seen in different shapes, sizes and colors possibly braided or twisted for a dramatic look. Vintage glass beads may be found along side of wood beads. Wood chains are decorated with brass and glass crystals. Layered similar and mismatched beaded strands and unusual necklaces worn together create colorful look this season.

The layered look for earrings is hot this season with unusual smaller shapes on top of larger pieces of silver, copper, or gold. Faceted briolette gemstones dangle from sterling silver wire. Charms may suspend from chains, and the antique look is always popular during the fall and winter months. Teardrop stones are seen in every size and color with clusters of beautiful tiny seed beads. Gold or silver earrings may have an inlay of turquoise or mother of pearl. Hammered silver hoop earrings of all sizes may have cultured freshwater pearls dangling in the center. (more…)

Plus Size Fashion WINTER 2007 / 2008 Fashion Forecast

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The fashion stars of winter 2007/2008 are a welcome beacon of shimmer, shine and pop of color in an often drab winter palette. 80′s glamour color palette, with updated flattering shapes, combined with the refined luxury of the 40′s have re-emerged throughout the fashion world to an applauding plus size audience.

Jewel tones hues for 2007/2008 are taking center stage, often times replacing the ever-present Little Black Dress as chic choices. Amethyst, cobalt, ruby and emerald are the universally flattering favorites, for all shapes and sizes. The standard myth that black slims, colors expand is being proven incorrect time and again with this gorgeous palette. Rich, saturated colors slim and flatter as well as their somber sister black and alternately, flatter the wearer’s coloring beautifully.

Choose quality fabric, in a rich tone designed to enhance your favorite feature. A beautiful plus size woman, wearing a pop of color in a sea of black is sure to add a little life to even the dullest of holiday hoop-lahs. Still choosing to stick with basic black dress? Add burst of color with bold amethyst satin Maryjane’s and a choice Kenneth Lane Cocktail ring and jeweled bangle set. Mix your accessory colors freely when wearing a solid black clothing palette for dramatic effect.

Shimmer and shine is no longer evening exclusive apparel, glittering choices for the season easily carry the wearer from day to night. Satin shimmering blouses are easily paired with sexy blazers for day and a sexy pair of metallic heels and bold cocktail jewelry for night. Jeweled detailing at the hem, neckline and sleeves add standout detailing to basic shapes we love. When wearing shimmer apply the same rules used with animal print; chose one garment to shine. The Runway Story for Spring 2008

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The 2008 Spring Collections are fresh off the runways of the major fashion centers around the world. And the reviews are beginning to come in as the critics, retail buyers, and fashion writers analyze and critique what they saw on the runways. So, what are the trends that seem to cross many collections? What are the colors that designers have deemed fashionable for next spring? What accessories are accenting those collections? And, most importantly, how will these trends, colors, and accessories translate to affordable ready-to-wear styles?

To generalize, spring 2008 appears to be filled with several very wearable, fresh trends while selected looks from fall/winter will continue to remain popular. Although there are important new trends that come to the forefront of each new season’s fashion picture, some looks seem to flow easily from season to season while undergoing minor changes. Watch for the dress to continue to dominate the fashion scene, although the basic silhouette of the dress will change as the baby doll look fades away and the pencil thin silhouette now begins to influence the dress category. Watch for the prevalent neutral color to remain in the gray family, while the blue tones popular in fall/winter will transition to purple tones for spring. The waistline will become the center of interest making the belt an extremely important accessory item; but also note that jewelry remains big, bold, and oversized while all accessories become increasingly important in completing the total look. Ethical Fashion – What, Why and Why Now?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
What is ethical fashion, why is it important, and why are we just hearing about it now? Well, to answer these questions we start with what is wrong with clothing production today. Most clothing available in stores today is produced in an unethical manner using sweatshop and/or child labour to ensure a larger profit margin. Manufacturers use unsustainable fabrics like non-organic cotton (dubbed as natural, it accounts for almost 25% of all pesticide use) and polyester (which is a petroleum by-product). They use conventional dying practices which release chlorine, chromium, and other pollutants into the environment posing a health risk to the farmers, assemblers and wearers (7 of the top 15 pesticides used on conventional US cotton crops are “possible” to “known” human carcinogens). The shift to ethical production practices in the clothing industry has been undeniably important for a long time making the market ripe for a positive change. Consumers are starting to demand better.

What is Ethical Fashion?

Ethical fashion is that which is produced using: fairly-paid and fairly-treated adult workers; sustainable fabrics and materials like organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, and reclaimed or recycled materials; low-impact fiber-reactive dyes or vegetable dyes; respect for a healthy environment and/or product for the farmer, the assembler, and the wearer of the clothing.

Why Ethical Fashion?

We are all responsible for how our own lifestyles affect the environment. Simple measures can be taken to achieve big changes by simply switching our buying patterns to include products made of low impact materials. Positive pressure on businesses who have yet to volutarily clean up their acts is very easily applied by simply choosing not to spend money on their products, and helping – little by little – to grow the businesses who have made an explicit commitment to responsible business practice. Every Woman’s And Designer’s High Fashion Fantasy

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Haute couture is every woman’s and designer’s high fashion fantasy. Haute couture has to do with the most exquisite clothing created. In 1868, the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture was created to enforce rules involving fabrics, numbers of employees, and numbers of designs for day and evening wear. By the mid-20th century, more than 100 haute couture houses competed earnestly for well-heeled clientele by following the stringent set of rules: sewing by hand, with employees who are French, in ateliers that are French, in France. They began somewhat unstylishly in the midst of a worldwide depression but ended as a dazzling and influential decade of haute couture.

Fashion

Fashion history is a rich area to explore. Fashion is a language which tells a story about the person who wears it. “Couture literally means “sewing,” but has come to indicate the business of designing, creating, and selling custom-made, high fashion women’s clothes. During fashion’s “golden age,” after World War II, some 15,000 women wore couture. Christian Lacroix embarked on a romantic journey through his fashion favorites, while jeans brought an attitude of rebellious practicality to Chanel’s winter couture.

For more than a century, couture has been emblematic of the triumph of costume and fashion. It represents the fusion of fashion. The modern entity that combines novelty and synergy with personal and social needs and costume the arts of dressmaking, tailoring, and crafts constituent to apparel and accessories. Founded in the crucible of modernism’s invention in the middle years of the nineteenth century in Paris, with the expanded patronage cultivated by the House of Worth, but still dependent upon the considerable support of Empress Eugénie, couture has long stood as the modern equilibrium between the garment as exquisite aggregate and the burgeoning notions of fashion as a system.
