American Fans pay double for Kate Moss Fashions!

News keep coming, and we were hoping to move on. There is this news bit from DailyIndia.com. Barney’s costumers were angry at the high price tag for the clothes, with some items reportedly as high as a $100 (so much for affordable fashion)

Topshop Spokeswoman said that the prices reflect the transportation cost from the UK, (however, the garments are made in India, China and Mauritius, there may be some kinks in their supply chain management)

Despite the increase in price the spokesperson said that the garments were still an “amazingly” good value for Barneys.

Our bet is that US costumers are more apt to pay with credit card than shoppers across the pond. Also, the demand in the US clearly supported the price point. Almost all of the 11,000 items ordered were sold.

Meet the Business behind the Beauty, Sir Philip Green

We have been covering Kate Moss new fashion launch with particular interest, not only for the line itself, but also for the business strategy behind it. So I think it’s fitting to do a small piece on Sir Philip Green.

Mr. Green successfully runs Topshop, England’s affordable high street retailer, and is the owner of the Arcadia Group and Bhs (British Home Stores), Arcadia is the parent company of Topshop.

Green, Britain’s 4th richest man, started in business as a small time trader. He later bought a failing retail operation and successfully turned it around selling it for a profit. He became the CEO of a public men’s wear company called “Ambers Day” that after declining profit, was forced to resign. Mr. Green ran other retail operations including Debenhams and Allders, JJB Sports, and led the acquisition of Sears Retail Chain (different than Sears, Roebuck and Company) (more…)

Kate Moss Street Cred!

Vogue Magazine published an article about Kate Moss’ American Launch of her clothing line. The article is pretty much a description of the party and her famous friends, including Moss infamous transparent dress (which is on sale for $470, including the belt). However, there was a quotation from Barneys’ Cult Creative Director, Simon Doonan that caught my attention:

“It’s very simple – celebs try to do fashion but it doesn’t mean much, whereas Kate has fashion cred in bucketfuls. Basically I’m in heaven – as a Brit I understand the majesty of TopShop. It’s edgy and it’s democratic.”

What is interesting about this collection is that unlike Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwen Stefani and other celebrities who are known as singers or actresses; Moss, has an established reputation as model and direct exposure to the industry (she was discovered at the age of 14). Making her more of a fashion authority than other celebrity designers. (more…)

Kate Moss Clothing Line only for Skinny, Perfect Girls, says Lily Allen

Outspoken British Rocker Lily Allen, who is releasing her own fashion line, has told Gracia Magazine “Kate’s clothes are just for skinny, perfect girls. I won’t be buying any.”

“I couldn’t get into those tiny hotpants if I tried, and if I did I’d look ridiculous. The hard thing is to get everybody of every size to look fantastic. That’s the real deal. Fashion should be a laugh and be for everybody. My dresses will suit anyone, whether they’re tall or small, or fat or thin.”

For fashion conscious shoppers, describing your clothing as good for the “common man” rather “woman” might not be the best way to sell your products. Clearly Kate will do a better job selling the idea of Fashion and Glamour at affordable prices than Lilly.

But given that Lily’s market is the “quirky independent girl” she may be reaching her market after all, she elaborates “The best thing about dresses is the fact they hide a lot of things you don’t want exposed and flatter the good bits. My bum and legs are revolting, which is why I wear dresses all the time. And I put in wider straps to hide the arm bits we all hate. (more…)

As you probably guessed by now, Kate Moss new fashion line is getting plenty of attention from the media.

The supermodel’s line has been getting great reviews from critics, and other industry insiders.

Fashion expert Maria Ioannou, who attended the NY release party said: “We have always been fascinated by the seemingly effortless British sense of style.

“And when it comes to Kate Moss, what’s not to love about a woman who seems to party all night and come out the other end looking fabulous?”

This is the great allure of the line. Kate Moss is a gorgeous woman who personifies the Rock and Roll lifestyle (particularly with the engagement to rocker Pete Doherty), and manages to look perfect at the end of the day.

Controversy for Kate Moss’s Topshop Collection

It seems that there some controversy between Jeff Banks and Topshop. Jeff Banks, a Scottish Fashion designer, has put in question Kate Moss input on Topshop’s new collection.

“Can Kate sharpen a pencil or draw a matchstick man? Banks asked. “I wouldn’t put money on it. I’ll bet [Kate Moss just grabbed one of her many Prada bags, rifled through her wardrobe … and turned up at Topshop’s head office in Oxford Street for a quick hour’s briefing with the in-house designers and buying staff.”
