Fashion Designer Focus – 12th Street By Cynthia Vincent

Kristen BellCynthia Vincent was trained at the Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design under the M.A.G.I.C scholarship. Upon graduation in 1988, Vincent received the Silver Thimble Award from Ann Cole, a great implication of the success that was yet to come.

Thereafter, she moved to London and quickly rose to head designer of Jane Ong & Company. After returning to the States, Vincent continued to refine her skills working for a handful of companies including Harriet Selwyn.

Cynthia launched Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent with a bang during LA Fashion Week in 2003. Appropriately named after the street on which she grew up in the suburbs of LA, Twelfth Street became a very personal project for Vincent. From that moment on, her collection has become a driving force in fashion. From the onset, Twelfth Street has been a favorite of fashion editors from many publications.

In Fall 2005, Cynthia brought her unique vision to shoes. From the perfect ballerina flat, to the naughty secretary pump, and the strappy high heel, she again offers something for every girl in the know. Two years later, she was invited to show her fall/winter 2007 collection during New York’s fashion week.

Perhaps it is the inspiration behind Vincent’s work that makes her designs so special. “To me, what is most inspiring is seeing a woman who is at once feminine, stylish, comfortable, and most of all, original,” says Cynthia Vincent.

Over the years, such staples as the silk crepe de chine slips, velvet boudoir jackets and luxurious sweaters have become the most sought after fashion pieces from New York to Hollywood. (more…)

Paris Street Fashion

asian style of couturePeople have many stereotypes. Especially towards the other nations. Some of them are not merely stereotypes but the very truth, while the other are a complete falsehood.

Before going to Paris and meeting the Parisians I used to think the capital citizens are all dressed-up, as if they have just went down the catwalk. And I was surprised when I saw the Parisians with my own eyes. They turned out to be dressed like millions of Europeans – each in his or her way. I mean there are people who keep up with the latest fashion trends and wear only Gucci or Prada. But there are many of them who wear inexpensive brands and don’t care about the caprices of vogue.

So I got interested in the subject. I decided to ask people in the Paris streets what they are in and why.

The first mademoiselle I stopped was Linda. She is a designer and names Pierre Cardin her favourite fashion designer. She answered positively when I asked her if she wore her own clothes. She also buys them in different shops. For instance she likes Morgan and drops in at H&M. She said she doesn’t keep up with the latest trends and creates her own style. Antuan was my next interviewer. He is an extremely interesting personality I should say. Very elegant and stylish in spite of his age (he’s about 70). He said he is cut out to be a man of fashion. He buys clothes in luxurious designer boutiques but doesn’t follow the fashion laws. He said he would never put on a thing at the season he bought it. No sooner than in a couple of years, he added. Sexy Business Women And More Great Business Keywords

Creating a website for your business is easy but bringing visitors to the site is difficult. Too many business owners try too hard to get their site listed in search results for highly competitive keywords such as “business.” Sure, over 1 million people search that word every month but there are over 1 billion websites that compete for that keyword. Sometimes it is just better to focus on a few dozen sets of keywords that have relatively little competition than to make a splash with one big keyword.

So here is a sample list of 25 keywords that receive hundreds of searches each month but have relatively little competition. Getting these onto page one of search results with Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, and Ask Jeeves should take less work than the more popular keywords.

Here is my sample list of keywords, in no particular order:

1. Sexy business woman: If this works for your site, great! Many men use the internet to search for pictures of women. Variations of this could include “nude business girls” or “naked business women.” But be careful in drawing the wrong audience to your site.

2. Corporate sales lead: Great for sales prospecting companies that provide services such as sales lists or marketing lists.

3. Marquee widget: A widget is a hypothetical manufactured article but people still search for these. (more…)

No Spanx…No Thanks

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketI was traveling to Paris last week with a very good and very very curvaceous friend of mine who’d left something very very crucial at home.

I left my “Spanxs!” she frantically exclaimed. Huh? Well of course I’d heard of them they’re the footless pantyhose that have been so impeccably branded and promoted they’re in a league of their own. Certainly my dear friend had enough sense to realize they are just pantyhose…they could easily be replaced.

Well unfortunately the long flight may have shaken some of her marbles a loose. My friend explained she wears Spanx every single day and they were the only things that put her hips “under control.” She wouldn’t think of spending her European vacation without them. Knowing the power of branding the way I do…my reaction “You couldn’t be serious?” but at the same time “You probably are.”

So we hit the road…not to see the Eifle Tower, The Louve or to stroll the Champs Elysees…. we were on a hunt for Spanx. Many stores…. confused salespeople and evil looks from me later she reluctantly purchased a “tummy control,” girdle…the kind that have been around forever. As far as I could see they controlled her hips more than enough.

Spanxs essentially created a category of one. They transcend control top footless pantyhose into the only “real Spanks,” you could buy. Was it the fun name…the cute packaging….or the clever tagline of “power panties.” (more…)

Desperate for Product Placement

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketI had a chance meeting in Atlanta with the director of Business Development for Compulsion.

Compulsion what? The guy claimed it was revolutionary. Whatever…everything’s revolutionary these days. I’ve been known as a hard nut to crack but once I watched the Compulsion demo on his laptop I knew…right then…right there. These folks were about change the world of Ecommerce.

Well, everyone knows the sexy stepsister of advertising has always been product placement. However the biggest problem with product placement is the frustration it presents. Yeah, I’ve wondered what type of blackberry McDreamy was using or what lip gloss Gabby had on the last episode of Desparate Housewives. I mean we all think about those things….Don’t we?? But what are you supposed to do…Google it and hope it comes up? That’s so 2006. (more…)

Getting to the Top…Search Engine Optimization

The topic of Search Engine Optimization was the big buzz at my online marketing seminar last night.

“How can I get to the top!” the attendees clamored…banged on the tables and shot daggers at me that resembled bic pens. Aghhhhhhhhhh…the expert has been exposed. Let’s give everyone a refund and I’m going to try to get home to watch the series premier of Hero’s. Cool?

Ok, seriously sometimes I am prone to exaggerate…however if I had the formula to get anyone any term they want at the top of the Google search listings I’d be hosting seminars on the rooftop of my Malibu mansion instead of the LA Mart and my refreshments would change from bottled water to bottles of Moet & Chandon . Really.
The exact Google algorithm for getting to the top is the best kept secret since McDonald’s secret sauce. Many firms can give you their “guarantees,” for certain words in the organic listings….for typically a certain very high price.

Attention folks….There really aren’t any true guarantees! Which probably explains the use of the term search engine “optimization” instead of Search Engine Placement firms. This slight mince of words serves as the loophole that illustrates the inherent limitations in “cracking the code.” (more…)
