Who is a Famous Fashion Designer? 12.09.08

/>Whether you are interested in learning how to become a fashion designer or just want to learn a bit more about the industry in general, one of the first steps you are going to need to take is to educate yourself on the fashion designer icons that are out there.

Michael Kors

One of the most popular fashion designer icons of our time is Michael Kors. This fashion designer is truly unlike any other, and one that anyone who is interested in anything to do with fashion is going to want to learn more about.

Kars began designing clothes at the young age of 19, and at this point in time has definitely made his mark in the fashion world. You may have seen him on the ever popular show Project Runway with the beautiful Heidi Klum, and in addition to the Michael Kors runway collection, the MICHAEL Michael Kors and KORS Michael Kors lines were launched in the year 2004.

All of his lines are extremely popular and currently, Kors has collection boutiques in New York, Beverly Hills, Las Vegas, Miami, and South Coast Plaza. Weiterlesen »

The Spice of Life in Fashion 28.06.08

on how to get loans with bad credit

The spices of life are more to some and less to others. Contrary to a captain with no hull beneath his deck, but a good steady wind and a pair of Denim flares more befitting a weather worn sailor feeling his years, to the Far East in search of spices. Time and tide won’t let a sailor sleep.

Now it’s the spices of fashion for men, the rising tide: And, dandyism still contrasting Beau Brummell rejection of 18th century frills, his mandate; a dark blue coat, buff-coloured pantaloons and waistcoat, black boots and a clean white neck cloth.

The modern sailor’s uniform, endures and has remained a popular choice for designers to mimic idiosyncratic characters, a simple uniform to draw inspiration from; each changing style to suit forms and functions.

A little more evidence on how history in fashion repeats itself: Bell bottomed trousers were another ‘icon’ of the square rig uniform. These were practical garments for men who worked sailing ships since they could be rolled up securely to clear the feet and ankles when working the rigging. In common with all other items of a sailor’s kit, trousers were kept folded ready for use in a kit bag. Kept inside out to avoid fluff on the outer surface and to avoid ’shine’ by ironing, they were folded horizontally at about a hand’s width and taped into a rectangular ‘block’. When worn, this produced inverted vertical creases down the side of the leg and five or seven, depending on the height of the wearer, horizontal creases down the leg. In time these were accepted as the thing to have and were pressed firmly into place from the early years of the century. Since the First World War bell bottoms were purchased for tradition rather than any practical use but were replaced by flared trousers in 1977. Weiterlesen »

Fashion Designer Focus – 12th Street By Cynthia Vincent 02.03.08

Kristen BellCynthia Vincent was trained at the Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design under the M.A.G.I.C scholarship. Upon graduation in 1988, Vincent received the Silver Thimble Award from Ann Cole, a great implication of the success that was yet to come.

Thereafter, she moved to London and quickly rose to head designer of Jane Ong & Company. After returning to the States, Vincent continued to refine her skills working for a handful of companies including Harriet Selwyn.

Cynthia launched Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent with a bang during LA Fashion Week in 2003. Appropriately named after the street on which she grew up in the suburbs of LA, Twelfth Street became a very personal project for Vincent. From that moment on, her collection has become a driving force in fashion. From the onset, Twelfth Street has been a favorite of fashion editors from many publications.

In Fall 2005, Cynthia brought her unique vision to shoes. From the perfect ballerina flat, to the naughty secretary pump, and the strappy high heel, she again offers something for every girl in the know. Two years later, she was invited to show her fall/winter 2007 collection during New York’s fashion week.

Perhaps it is the inspiration behind Vincent’s work that makes her designs so special. “To me, what is most inspiring is seeing a woman who is at once feminine, stylish, comfortable, and most of all, original,” says Cynthia Vincent.

Over the years, such staples as the silk crepe de chine slips, velvet boudoir jackets and luxurious sweaters have become the most sought after fashion pieces from New York to Hollywood. Weiterlesen »

After a whirlwind of Business and Fashion, Kate Moss and Pete Doherty reunite 16.05.07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketChina Daily reports that Kate is back in England from her promotional tour and she is reunited with Pete Doherty for “Fags and Kisses”. Well till we get the sales figures (Topshop has not release sales figures of the line), there is no more to report.

But, for my amusement, let me make a quick and dirty estimate (and probably incorrect) of the Kate Moss Topshop collection sales figures anyway for the US Launch.

I am going to assume that all the clothes were ordered in equal quantities (see wrong already), so I am just going to average the prices for the collection.

That gives me an average price of 39.61 pounds (I got the prices from the TopShop website)

There is some news that almost all the items (11,000) ordered by Barneys were sold.

So simple multiplication 39.61*11000= Weiterlesen »

Kate Moss is an Unstoppable Force 15.05.07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketIf we keep on writing about Kate Moss, we are going to have to rename the website. AHN reports that with the success of her clothing line, British supermodel is set to launch a Hair Care line. She is teaming up with celebrity hairdresser James Brown to produce the line of products. The hair products will feature Kate’s face on the package.

Kate is giving her advice and expertise to the creation of the line, but unlike the Topshop fashion line it will not have Kate Moss branding, sources tell England’s Sun newspaper.

The slight blonde is successfully branching out to other aspects of the Fashion as she looks for ways to transition from modeling.

TopShop American plans 14.05.07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketRetailWeek.com, reports that Sir Philip Green will kick start a 100 million dollar plan to expand in New York with 3 stores in light of the success of the Kate Moss TopShop brand. Green also plans to open a 100 more stores around the world including Paris, Scandinavia, possibly China and India.

Javno.com gives more details on this move, Green dismissed rumors that Topshop (bankers estimate that the retail company is worth 3.96 billion dollars) will list the company following the US launch.

Green estimates that to open a retail store opened with take about 9 months. He is looking in Manhattan for space of 150,000 square feet across the 3 stores.

This might be part of a bigger expansion. He may be able to succeed where rival retailer Marks & Spencer failed, breaking into one of the world’s most competitive markets.

Plucky Marketer Lilly Allen still plugging away 14.05.07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Well, here we have some more news about Lilly Allen keeping on the public eye. First, complaint about the competition

But hey no hard feelings, besides Kate Moss saved me from bullies that’s what we call star power

Interest waning, do not despair we have more news, here is a nice little tidbit from gaysocialites.com
Lilly is definitely savvy in keeping in the media, lets hope her clothes sell well.

By the way, here is Lilly complaining about celebrity led culture (in this article she criticizes Victoria Beckham) She says “People of my generation have become skeptical about it. We’ve had it shoved in our faces, and because of all these reality TV shows. We’ve seen how it all works behind the scenes. Rather than think, ‘She must be cool because she is in a magazine, we don’t buy into it.” is funny considering that she is selling her own celebrity fashion line.

American Fans pay double for Kate Moss Fashions! 11.05.07

News keep coming, and we were hoping to move on. There is this news bit from DailyIndia.com. Barney’s costumers were angry at the high price tag for the clothes, with some items reportedly as high as a $100 (so much for affordable fashion)

Topshop Spokeswoman said that the prices reflect the transportation cost from the UK, (however, the garments are made in India, China and Mauritius, there may be some kinks in their supply chain management)

Despite the increase in price the spokesperson said that the garments were still an “amazingly” good value for Barneys.

Our bet is that US costumers are more apt to pay with credit card than shoppers across the pond. Also, the demand in the US clearly supported the price point. Almost all of the 11,000 items ordered were sold.

And the reviews 10.05.07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketThis series of reports would not be complete without a good opinion round up from leading fashion commentators, bloggers and shoppers around the web,
