Hong Kong Clothing Industry

Textile quotas were eliminated among WTO members at the first day of 2005 in accordance with the Agreement on Textiles and Clothing (ATC). However, resistance to quota removal spread in the US and EU. Subsequently, China reached agreements with the EU and the US in June and November 2005 respectively. The China-US agreement, effective from January 2006, governs the exports of a total of 21 groups involving 34 categories of Chinese textiles and clothing products to the US during 2006-2008. The China-EU agreement, effective from June 2005, covers 10 categories of Chinese textiles and clothing exports to the EU during 2005-2007.

Furthermore, with regard to the WTO, China has been relaxing their restrictions on foreign investments regulations. This actually indicates that the government is supporting foreign investors to enter into the China market. China is placing more importance to the quality rather than the quantity of foreign investment. This shows the development of the China market where they are focusing on refining their economy as they expand further.

London Fashion Business Assistance and Resources for Designers

The following list is a for designers looking for business assistance to help them make their mark in the Fashion market

Center For Fashion Enterprise (CFE) based on the London College of Fashion, is a business development program that works with early stage design companies. The CFE works with and partners with the London Development Agency and the London College of Fashion to provide business support for new Fashion Labels. The CFE provides services to fund and develop new connections, PR, Marketing and Sales Support, manufacturing links, business planning, strategic advice, accounting and access to new investors.

The British Fashion Council is the official voice of the designer fashion industry. It aims, with the help of industry benefactors, to promote British fashion designers worldwide.
