Comments Off August 28th, 2011 Los Angeles, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) – Kellan Lutz, best known for playing Emmett Cullen and for wearing next to nothing, doesn’t just wear clothes sometimes. He designs them. Now he’s celebrating the official launch of his own line, Abbot & Main.
Lutz was on hand for the official launch party at Chateau Nightclub in Las Vegas for the line, which sees him collaborating with denim company Dylan George. The Dylan George Abbot + Main, which he’s also modeling for (the first sexed-up shoot debuted earlier in the month), officially launched in August.
The menswear collection ranges in price from $44 to $178. $44 gets you some of their Trim Fit crew necks t-shirts, while the line also features henley t-shirts and a drawstring hoodie.
Lutz is also working with Dylan George on featuring a women’s collection for next year for Abbot & Main, named after a cross section near Kellan’s Venice home.
“I love to create. I’ve always wanted to get into fashion,” Kellan Lutz said when the line was first announced. “I’ve always liked drawing, not Space Age stuff but high fashion.”
Lutz hasn’t quit his day job as up-and-coming Hollywood hunk. He’s got quite a few movies in post-production, including the first of the two “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” films. The first hits theaters on November 18th.

February 21st, 2011 Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – “Project Runway” fixture Tim Gunn is writing a bible for the fashion industry.
“Tim Gunns Fashion Bible: The Fascinating History of Everything in Your Closet” promises to provide answers to common fashion questions with tips and tricks on style.
According to People magazine, in the new book, Gunn takes a “witty look at the world of fashion, with each chapter covering an item of clothing from its earliest incarnation to the present day – everything from shoes to underwear.”
He said in a statement, “Fashion is fun and thrilling – and it’s something that concerns everyone who wears clothing, not just an elite crew in midtown Manhattan.”
“Every item of clothing means something, usually a lot of somethings. By pointing out what those things are, I hope this book will delight readers and magically transform their cluttered closets into world of wonders.”
The “Fashion Bible” follows the New York Times bestseller “Gunn’s Golden Rules.” It will hit shelves in fall of next year.

While putting together great outfits for friends has always been something you’ve liked to do on the side, you can do it for a living. Creating clothing and accessory designs just comes naturally to some people, and when you attend classes to really refine your skills you’ll be impressed not only with how much you can learn, but how much you can be paid to do the things that you love to do! While designing clothes and even putting together patterns and outfits for yourself and your friends may be a great hobby, it can be an even better job if you go to school and learn how to do it all the right way so that you can come across creative and professional to prospective clients.
Fashion designers will be taught to sketch their ideas, draw and cut patterns, create simple garments, fit and modify finished garments, arrange showings for press as well as buyers, compare merchandise to that of competitors, learn how to keep current, and how to visit textile showrooms when they attend fashion design school. These skills will all contribute to helping someone with a passion for fashion develop their skill and utilize it in the real world.
Most fashion designers are self-employed and simply design for individual clients. Designers become popular by setting themselves apart by being professional, reliable, and using different colors, shapes, and materials that will allow them to stand out among their competition. A great way to learn how to create your own methods of creating great clothing, accessories, or jewelry is to become a designer’s assistant. Helping a designer will not only allow those that are learning to see what goes into the business, but will also help them define a sense of self and a true sense of what they want to do in the fashion business.
Some fashion designers work for larger firms and this may be a great way to get a fashion designer education when you get out of fashion designer school, as well. These firms or corporations typically have a head designer, which is responsible for most of the creative aspects and supervision of the design room staff. Assistant designers are often hired by firms and often make the first patterns and help the head designer oversee creative and personnel issues. There are also specialty designers that may be hired by corporations that will work with other designers to help create limited or special lines of clothing. Special designers will often have a specific article of clothing or accessory that they work with and often they design for a specific market or country and can play a vital role in a large design company. There are also theatrical costume designers that create costumes or articles of clothing and accessories for plays, movies, or other theatrical productions and these designers may work on contract. Of course, all of these jobs can be done independent of a firm, but some individuals find these jobs easier to get through a firm first, for a more consistent income.
The work environment for every designer varies, as some work in very professional settings while others work in very cramped and rushed environments. If you work for yourself you can really set the standard for yourself so that you do not have to work in unfavorable situations. If you are looking at working for a firm, be sure to ask hard questions about the work environment and schedule. Just because you just graduated from fashion designer school doesn’t mean that you should be subjected to less than comfortable working conditions! Freelance fashion designer work can also be done outside of your own job so that you can slowly create your own client base away from your corporate job.
There is a lot of money to be made by fashion designers once they have graduated and obtained some experience. Many designers make more than $20 an hour and the average salary for a designer is more than $57,000 a year! Of course, education, experience, licensing and a grasp of trends and professionalism are what get you to such a salary, but after attending fashion designer school you can achieve all of these things. Remember that you may not start out at the top, but when you get there all the little jobs you have worked will seem more than worth it so get your fashion designer education now.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that glamorous perception of the design industry is a myth, and that vision of yourself as a famous fashion designer with your own clothing line is almost close to impossible to reach. The actual chances of that are probably the same as becoming a movie star. It doesn’t mean that you won’t become a successful fashion designer working for a company- it means that your chances of becoming the type of designer you envision yourself as are quite slim. Not only do you have to compete with the already established professional fashion designers, but nowadays throw pop singers, celebrities, and TV stars into the mix. There is a better chance that you’ll end up working for an established designer collection or as a designer for the next big celebrity’s clothing line.
If this sounds like old news to you, then congratulations – you’re a step ahead of the game because you already know what you’re getting into. If what I just said comes as a total surprise, take a moment to let reality sink in – and then keep reading. In either case, we want to give you the info you need to know to prepare yourself for some of the challenges that lie ahead…
In school most of your time was spent learning fashion illustration, draping, sewing, and patternmaking. While these are certainly good skills to have, they aren’t very practical when you’re trying to land your first job in the fashion industry. In the real world you’ll be expected to know how to sketch flats, create garment specs, CADs, and presentation boards.
Knowing popular computer applications for creating flats and CADs is extremely important. Most companies expect proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft Excel. Many companies also request knowledge of WebPDM. Many fashion school grads believe they know these programs well. But schools don’t teach computerized flats or the software used to create them well enough for entry-level designers to be competent within the industry.
Whether you’re applying to different fashion schools, already in school, about to graduate, or already have your first job in the industry, it’s important to have an idea of where you ultimately want to end up. You might think that as a fashion designer; you’ll have the opportunity to work with all types of clothing, but you should be aware that there are different categories and specializations within the fashion industry. Have you thought about which fashion market you want to end up in? What specialization? Developing a plan of action will increase your chances of reaching your goals.
When creating their first fashion portfolios, many design students and entry-level fashion designers make the mistake of filling them with all of their favorite fashion illustrations. But companies don’t need to see tons of imaginative avant-garde sketches – they just don’t sell! Following an organized portfolio format is a better approach to get your ideas across and show off all of your talents and skills, while demonstrating your knowledge and understanding of what companies expect from you.
You’ll also need to create a well organized, intelligent resume to get yourself through the door. If you don’t look good on paper, recruiters won’t give you a second glance. Not only do your skills and qualifications have to impress, but you need to make sure they stand out amongst the hundreds, or thousands of other applicants for the same position.
Employers know that entry-level candidates will require a lot of training to fill in those education gaps. However, they do look for a candidate that won’t be difficult to train, or take up too much training time. Someone who learns quickly and is willing to go the extra mile is a worthwhile candidate for the employer to hire. Express your interest in the company, and your flexibility and eagerness to learn and develop within the field. To really impress, make sure your have researched the market and are familiar with common industry terms so you won’t get caught off guard when they are mentioned in the interview.
Despite what I said earlier, I’m sure there are still some of you who are determined to become your own designer; create your own label, design your own fashion line, runway show and all. We commend your ambitiousness and of course, we are here to help! With our advice and observations, we want to provide you with our suggested approach to make it happen. Educating yourself, knowing the business, designing for a cause you love, and promoting yourself through new avenues are all steps towards becoming the designer you’ve always envisioned!
Keep in mind that the above issues are topics that deserve serious individual attention. In our upcoming articles, we’ll discuss each topic further, giving you insider tips and insight so you can sidestep the pitfalls of the industry, giving you that much-needed competitive edge and increasing your chances of getting where you want to go within the industry. The Golden Girl had one of the best years ever. She’s working harder than most younger Hollywood starlets, starring in “You Again” opposite Kristen Bell, TV Land’s hit “Hot in Cleveland,” doing guest spots on shows like “30 Rock ” and “Community,” and even starting her own clothing line. A Facebook campaign finally earned her a hosting gig on “SNL,” which she said she “didn’t know what Facebook was, and now that I do know what it is, I have to say, it sounds like a huge waste of time.” Always funny, always classy, White will never get old to us.
8. Johnny Depp
Earning double Golden Globe nominees for his turns as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” reimagining and the straight guy in a case of mistaken identity in “The Tourist,” it’s easy to see why Depp has always been one of our favorites. But it’s when he dons his Captain Jack Sparrow duds for the “Pirates of the Carribean” films, like “On Stranger Tides” next year, that he’s at his blockbuster best.

Love her or hate her, Taylor Swift can write a “Mean” song. Just as “Fearless” was starting to leave our disc changers, she hits us with “Speak Now,” another album all bout the boys that have come into her life, like Taylor Lautner (“Back to December”), John Mayer (“Dear John”), and “Glee” star Cory Monteith (something else). Unlike Carly Simon, if you probably think this song is about you, it most likely is.
6. Christina Aguilera
Aguilera made her big musical comeback this year with “Bionic,” which is better when she’s teaming up with Sia for introspective ballads and Switch for indie-club stompers. But something rang a little false about the mother-of-one “kissing all the boys and the girls” and pushing S&M in her “Not Myself Tonight” video. But her big screen acting debut in “Burlesque” turned all that around, a perfectly campy vehicle for the big-screen ready star, complete with a killer soundtrack that sees her, well, going back to basics.
5. Leonardo Dicaprio
Ever since he sank with the “Titanic” in 1997, Dicaprio continues to be one of the best actors of his generation. He starred in not one but two of the most acclaimed movies of the year, Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island” and Chris Nolan’s “Inception.” Whatever he’s got up his sleeve next, we’ll be there. He hasn’t steered us wrong since “The Man in the Iron Mask.” And even that wasn’t half-bad.
4. Katy Perry
Perry became all our teenage dreams this year, releasing one of the better pop discs of the year and showing off her assets in ridiculous outfit after ridiculous outfit (her Christmas-themed costumes for her Jingle Ball tours were among our favorites). But besides being melt-your-popsicle hot, it’s the way she confections #1 hits like “Teenage Dream,” “California Gurls,” and “Firework” that make us not want to ever look back.
3. Ke$ha
Even I thought there was no way the “Tik Tok” girl could produce a whole album of talky/rapping party starters. But then she released “Animal,” one of the most infectious dance pop records of the year, and now we’re all using special characters in our name and showering less. After earning four top 10 hits off “Animal,” she unleashed the EP “Cannibal” which only leaves us hungry for more.
2. Rihanna
Rihanna has become the perfect pop star. Hard working and always looking stunning, she manages to team up with the hottest producers and pump out one of the better pop releases each year. This year, she gives us “Loud,” a disc of urban and pop party anthems that ensures dance floor supremacy for the year to come. With three singles currently at the top of the charts (“Only Girl (In the World),” “What’s My Name?,” and “Who’s That Chick”), that Rihanna reign won’t let up for another year.
1. Britney Spears
Britney Spears is one of the most loved celebrities of the year and she doesn’t even have to try. The pop singer didn’t utter a single musical note in 2010, opting instead to hawk her new line of clothing for Candie’s and her new perfume “Radiance.” But a “Glee” tribute earned the show its highest ratings and reminded people of what a pop music tour-de-force this 29-year-old titan can be. In March, she’ll release her seventh studio album which is said to be harder and grimier than her previous efforts. So thank you K$, Gaga, and company, but the leader is back in the ring. And if you don’t like it, you can kiss her lily white southern Louisiana ass.

The year 2009, is nearing to an end and fashion gurus from the world have announced 2010 Trends for Urban Hip Hop clothing. Let us have a look at what is going to rule the market is the next year:
Women’s urban wear hip hop clothing trend for autumn and winter:
?Fashion experts announce that chunky knits are going to rule the clothing trends in winter. Thick textures in different colors would be trendy. Stylish knitted scarves and knitted jumper sweater would be the preferred accessories in the coming season.
?Laddered Stocking is clearly the trend for women clothing in 2010. Well, this look was first spotted in 2008 and has quickly picked up since then.
